Brands Hawker is an Intellectual Property firm and the principal is John Hawker. John has been engaged in the practice of I.P. law in Australia and overseas for almost thirty years.

John started his career at Davies Collison Cave, arguably Australia's best Patent and Trade Mark Attorney firm, and gained a solid grounding in Trade Marks Law with Trevor Stevens - a prominent trade mark practitioner.

Branching out John then spent six years engaged as Corporate Counsel for Sara Lee Corporation. John was initially based in Melbourne with overall responsibility for the Australian/ Pacific and East Asia regions for the company.

John then transferred to England with Sara Lee where his responsibilities included the African and UK regions.
Returning to Australia John joined Griffith Hack and was made a partner in the trade marks group and co-founded the law firm arm known then as Griffith Hack Lawyers.

Subsequently, John decided that he had talents outside law and whilst working part-time with another firm became involved in a number of technology start-ups - with some success - and John remains a director of two companies as a result.

A stint working for Marks & Clerk ( a significant global patents and trade marks firm ) in their Hong Kong office resulted from John's wife being transferred in her work to the Asia region.
